Varmint5000 is the companion site to Enzymind.com. It is intended as place to host content and subject matter that is not a good fit for the more serious goals of Enzymind. As with Enzymind, the emphasis and theme of Varmint5000 is creative work. Described by Arthur Koestler, the moment of creative insight that occurs as the consequence of the formation of new associations between previous unrelated information has common ties to the processes of science, art and humor. Humor is an extremely difficult to work with scientifically, and thus creativity which emphasizes humor, fun and the absurd will be somewhat separated here on Varmint5000, at least for the time being, in order to maintain the focus, professionalism and clarity of purpose of the Enzymind project.
While humor may be a theme, there is tremendous breadth in this topic and humor might be considered to be a sentiment for the content on Varmint5000 rather than a rule.
But WTF is Varmint5000?
A varmint is a creature generally considered to be unnecessary or of little value, monetary or otherwise. They do, most likely, have a greater purpose in the context evolution and natural selection, however, that purpose might not be clearly evident.
The 5000 suffix comes from the use of similar suffixes in advertising strategies for inane products such as the 'veg-o-matic 2000'. Some marketing strategies have extended this quasi-futuristic terminology by increasing the date i.e. the veg-o-matic 2100 or 3000. In a nod towards this kind of absurdness, 5000 is used here to hyper-extend the meaning and connotation of the term varmint to an extreme degree.
